What the Pavement Holds

What the Pavement Holds

Completed: Spring 2026

Client: Downtown Atlanta Inc

Scope of Work: Mural Design

I transformed one of Downtown Atlanta's busiest intersections into a tribute to the people, places, and moments that shaped the city. Each of the four crosswalks pulls from a different piece of Downtown's story.

The west crosswalk takes its cue from athletic track markings, a nod to the 1996 Olympics and the way that moment cemented Atlanta's place on the global stage.

  • The east crosswalk centers on a globe with "ATL" woven into the pattern, a quiet way to signal connection, movement, and the city's reach beyond its own borders.

  • The south crosswalk leans into Downtown's historic character with art deco patterns drawn from the elevator gate in the William-Oliver Building, a small architectural detail that says a lot about the craftsmanship of the era.

  • The north crosswalk references the glass elevators at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, designed by John Portman, whose buildings still shape how people move through Downtown.

  • At the four corners, near the curb ramps, I tucked in a detail inspired by the roof of Polaris.

How did it get installed? Check out this (extremely sped up) timelapse of some parts of the process:
